I just started reading Kingdom Man by Tony Evans and, let me tell you, I highly recommend it! I actually started reading it some time ago and got distracted by something or another and didn’t finish it. This time, I intend to read it all the way through. This book challenges me and lights me on fire for God so much!
Early on in the book Dr. Evans says something that really stuck with me. He talks about Heaven, Earth, and Hell taking notice when a Kingdom man wakes up in the morning. He says that when the Kingdom man’s feet hit the floor the Devil thinks, “Oh crap! He’s up!”.
I just love the thought presented here. The idea that a man swinging his feet to the floor could intimidate the Devil himself paints a picture of a manly man. This man is so tough, morally and spiritually, that Satan himself dreads the moment he opens his eyes every morning. When the Kingdom man wakes up in the morning his very consciousness intimidates the most powerful evil that has ever existed. It is like one soldier waking up and all of the soldiers in the enemy army starting to shake in their boots. We are talking about a Chris Kyle of the spiritual warfare realm here.
That is what I want to be, ladies and gentlemen. I want to be a soldier for God so strong that the enemy cries, “oh crap”, when I wake up in the morning.
Guess what? You and I can both be that soldier. That’s right. God has already given us this power! James 4:7 tells us, “Submit therefore to God. Resist the Devil and he will flee from you.” In case you missed that it says that he (the Devil) will flee from you! A quick Google search shows the definition for the word “flee” as being, “run away from a place or situation of danger.” So, the Devil himself considers you and I dangerous when we resist him and submit to God!
If you are anything like me then you are probably pretty stoked about the idea that God gives us the power to be considered a threat to the Devil. He is scared we will impede his work and that is an awesome thought! However, most of us (myself included) get excited about this thought but don’t actually strive to achieve this goal. Instead of striving to make the Devil say “oh crap!” when we get up, we settle for a nonchalant “eh, he is up.” Honestly, that is probably a more comfortable way to live. After all, if Satan doesn’t fear you, and you don’t threaten him, then he is most likely not going to bother himself with messing with you too much.
But is that the most fulfilling way to live? Not by a long shot! Being comfortable in this life might be all well and dandy but I would much rather be fulfilled. Being fulfilled is only going to occur when our life means something besides how happy we can be at any given moment. Being fulfilled is about making an eternal impact!
So, I issue a challenge. A challenge to you, of course, but honestly, a challenge more to myself. I hereby challenge myself, and anyone else who wishes to live a fulfilling, Devil scaring life, to submit to God and resist the Devil! I challenge us to pray harder, live holier, and love deeper. I challenge us to let go of worldly habits and practices. I challenge us to stop trying to fit in and start trying to be different. I challenge us to live 100% sold out to Christ no matter what the cost!
I’m in. Are you?
